Official CyanogenMod may be under development for OnePlus 2
The OnePlus 2 was spotted on Cyanogen’s official Git repository with two versions, CyanogenMod v12.2 and v13 which are based on Android Lollipop and Marshmallow respectively
Cyanogen may be working on an official CyanogenMod for the OnePlus 2. The device was spotted on the CyanogenMod official Git repository. This means that OnePlus 2 users would be able to install with ROM and it would be supported by the community and the developers, which would ensure frequent updates and changes. This would be great news for anyone hoping to use the device with Cyanogen’s ROM instead of OnePlus’ OxygenOS. It should also be noted that there were two versions of CyanogenMod listed in the repository, namely, v12.2 and v13. CyanogenMod v12.2 is based on Android Lollipop v5.1.1 while CyanogenMod v13 is based on Android Marshmallow v6.0.
OnePlus’ original device, the OnePlus One, came preloaded with Cyanogen’s OS. However, it was reported that OnePlus would not continue with CyanogenMod for its devices in India after the deal between Cyanogen Inc. and Micromax's siter arm YU. The latter was given exclusive rights to use Cyanogen OS in India. OnePlus had expressed its disappointment over the deal and would later create its own OS called OxygenOS for its future devices like the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X. Despite this fallout between the two companies, the OnePlus One received the CyanogenOS 12.1 update in August. OnePlus had earlier announced that the OnePlus One and 2 will receive the Marshmallow update in the first quarter of 2016. The company didn’t mention when the OnePlus X would be getting the Marshmallow update, but did say that they were working on rolling out the update as soon as possible. It also stated that the update for the OnePlus 2 would include the new Marshmallow API for the fingerprint sensor even though it was requested to create an API for the same in Oxygen OS.
The OnePlus 2 was launched in India in July and comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display. The device is powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC with 4GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage. There is a 13MP camera at the back with laser autofocus and optical image stabilisation while at the front is a 5MP camera. The phone is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C port.
