Obi Mobiles launches Octopus S520 smartphone in India at Rs 11990

Obi Mobiles has officially announced the launch of 'Obi Octopus S520', its first smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 11,990, the smartphone runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor along with 1GB of RAM.

The Octopus S520 sports a 5-inch HD IPS display. It has an 8MP rear camera with Auto Focus with Face Detection and HDR, and a 2MP front-facing camera. The smartphone comes with 8GB of internal storage, supports microSD for additional storage.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi- IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0. The smartphone is powered by an 1800 mAh battery, which is rated to deliver 240 minutes of talktime. The Octopus S520 is available online via e-commerce site Snapdeal.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, and promoted by Inflexionpoint, Obi Mobiles had announced entering the Indian market in April this year. It's notable Obi Mobiles is backed by ex-Apple CEO John Sculley.

Obi's first smartphone launch comes shortly after Xiaomi's entrance in India. Following the Moto G and E launches, the Indian smartphone has witnessed a drastic change with companies launching high spec'd device at affordable prices.

Apart from Xiaomi, Asus recently launched Zenfone series of smartphones with price starting at Rs. 5,999. Asus claims it has sold over 40,000  units of the ZenFone series within 4 days of its debut in Indian market – indicating at customers' interest in such affordable devices.
