ZTE smartphone to join the likes of Nvidia Project Shield and Vizio's 10-inch tablet as Tegra 4 powered devices.

ZTE and Nvidia have announced that the Chinese phone maker will be launching a new line of smartphones powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 4 chips. Along with the Tegra 4 handsets, ZTE is planning to release a smartphone powered by Nvidia’s i500 processor that boasts of 4G LTE voice and data support.

The Tegra 4 chipset comprises a quad-core ARM Cortex A15 processor and 72 GPU cores (six times more than what was on the Tegra 3). Nvidia has claimed that the new chipset is much faster than its predecessor and also features more efficient power management. ZTE is expected to launch its Nvidia powered smartphones in China but there are no details of a worldwide launch.

The Nvidia Tegra 4 also powers the Nvidia Shield portable gaming device that was shown off in January. The Shield runs Android and is able to run select PC games and also output full HD video to an external display. Another device that is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 4 is a 10-inch tablet from Vizio that features a display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, 32GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Android 4.2 and two cameras.
