Now unlock the Moto X using a digital tattoo!
Motorola has partnered with VivaLnk to bring digital tattoos that can last on your arm for up to five days.
Remember those digital tattoos that were in the news some time ago? Well, the first iteration of those are just around the horizon. Motorola smartphones can reportedly be unlocked using such tattoos now. The company has reportedly entered into a partnership with VivaLnk to launch the Digital Tattoo, which is an NFC-based skin tag that can unlock your phone. The feature is currently available only on the Moto X though.
The tattoo mentioned above can be put on your body and stays for about five days. It should also be able to survive abuses from sweat, showers etc. VivaLnk has currently set a price of $10 for a pack of 10 tattoos, which is enough to last you for 50 days. This means that you would spend just over $80 per year.
This seems a little too much money to spend for something that will only just unlock your phone. You would perhaps be better of saving the money for a smartwatch, like the Moto 360 even. The digital tattoos have been in the news now and have potential, which is yet to be recognised. Motorola’s effort is perhaps the first real effort at making them commercially available and useful.
