Sensing the huge growth expected in Smartphones, Symantec’s Norton has announced a new line of products, under the brand Norton Everywhere, targeted at the mobile market. They have released the beta versions of three software: Norton Smartphone Security, Norton Connect and Norton DNS, with full versions set to release in June.
Norton Smartphone Security beta (for Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile), is a mobile security app that provides protection from malicious code, ability to block calls and text messages, and prevention of information theft. The Android version provides the priceless feature that enables locking or formatting of device via text message, in case of theft or loss. With Norton Connect, Symantec has entered the mobile cloud-based services field, offering storage and access of data on their servers, for mobile devices, including the iPad, iPhone and Android phones. Norton DNS will make mobile surfing a safer experience by providing protection from phishing attacks, malicious sites, and spyware by resolving each URL through their dedicated DNS servers. This is similar to the service provided by Open DNS and Google Public DNS. This service is available for PCs and mobile devices, with an Android App coming to Market in June.
Norton Everywhere, as its name suggests, plans to cover every networked device, with upcoming security products for Blu-ray players, televisions and media streamers, home security systems, digital cameras and even picture frames. The connected device products will be developed in partnership with a startup firm called Mocana.
