Nokia Symbian Belle detailed in an extended video preview

Updated on 02-Aug-2011

Those looking forward to the latest generation of Symbian Belle phones from Nokia will be glad they now have an eight-minute long video of the operating system in action to glean all they can about it to their heart’s content.

Symbian Belle was shown running on a Nokia N8, and overall, it looked like a refined version of Symbian Anna (as expected), maintaining the new icon, homescreen and widget layouts, while bringing some minor tweaks to the interface elsewhere, such as new keyboard layout options, an improved notifications tab, and changes to navigation elements. We’ll have to wait for an official changelog and actual hands-on to get a real idea of the exact changes.

For now, with the first Symbian Anna devices (the E6 and X7-00) still fresh (and already outdated?) in the market, Nokia’s timeline for bringing the first Symbian Belle is a bit uncertain. The Nokia 500, a Symbian Anna-based ‘low-cost, full-function smartphone,’ is due out in Q3-Q4, meaning potential Belle device owners will probably have to wait till at least then. With the N8 running Belle however, legacy device support does not seem to be a problem for owners and the operating system alike.
