Nokia’s Android based handset to release this month: Reports
HIGHLIGHTS

A report from Wall Street Journal reaffirms that Nokia's Android based low cost handset will be released this month. The handset will be showcased at MWC in Barcelona.

According to sources at the Wall Street Journal, Nokia’s highly rumored Android based handset will go official as ‘Nokia X’ and likely release this month.

It’s no surprise that the smartphone might launch without Google Play support, pretty similar to what we saw with Amazon’s Kindle range. Instead it will feature services provided by Microsoft and Nokia. Earlier leaks pointed that the UI of the smartphone may be pretty identical to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.

Rumored specs on the Nokia X includes a 4-inch WVGA display, 4GB of in-built memory, a dual-core Snapdragon 200 SoC coupled with 512MB of RAM along with dual-SIM support. The handset will reportedly be priced along the same lines as Asha devices.

This latest report by ‘WSJ’ confirms that the device will go official and may be showcased during MWC in Barcelona. We are curious to see how Indian consumers respond to this smartphone; a blend of Nokia and Android sounds too good to be true. This might also affect sales of low end Window devices such as the Lumia 520 and the 525. The Lumia 520 accounts for 30 over percent of all Windows Phone sales.
