Nokia Pixel, budget Android smartphone spotted in benchmark listing
Nokia Pixel's very moderate score of 404 in single-core fails to inspire but it runs Android Nougat out of the box
Nokia's return to smartphone is the big story of 2017 and the first products are likely to launch at Mobile World Congress in 2017. While initial rumours hinted at two flagships and a mid-range smartphone, now we have leaks of a budget smartphone running Android 7.0 Nougat.
According to a Geekbench listing spotted by GizmoChina, a new budget smartphone dubbed Nokia Pixel gives us our first look at an upcoming Nokia smartphone. Nokia Pixel is nothing revolutionary in terms of specifications. In fact, it doesn't even fit into the current smartphone trend with its dual-core Snapdragon 200 CPU and just 1GB RAM. Nokia Pixel's very moderate score of 404 in single-core and 661 in multi-core doesn't inspire either but it runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. However, this device could very well be real and may become the replacement for Asha series.
Earlier, there were rumours of a device dubbed Nokia D1C, which suggested use of mid-range hardware. Nokia D1C was spotted on Antutu and Geekbench suggest it to be a mid-range smartphone but GFXBench confirmed it to be a 13.8-inch tablet. So, Nokia D1C continues to be a questionable device.
On the other hand, a Weibo tip suggested Nokia's upcoming flagships featuring Quad HD display and Zeiss branded optics. The smartphone is reported to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor and use metal aluminium design. The flagship devices will be a welcome change to a flagship market dominated by Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy range.
Nokia Pixel may not even be real but the specifications does hint at an Asha replacement. Nokia is know for making mobile devices in all price range and if these specifications turn out to be true, this device could see following in the budget conscious pockets.
