Nokia P1 rumour roundup: Metal and Glass design, Snapdragon 835 and more
Nokia P1 is rumoured to be priced at $800
Nokia is expected to announce two new smartphones at Mobile World Congress later this month. One of these devices is expected to be a budget smartphone, codenamed 'Nokia D1C', while the second device is rumoured to be a Snapdragon 835-powered flagship. The Nokia P1 was recently spotted in the form of a leaked video and it hints at a metal and glass design, and dedicated camera shutter.
According to recent reports, Samsung is currently holding onto all Snapdragon 835 chipsets from Qualcomm and the Galaxy S8 will be the first to feature the new processor. While Samsung may have first dibs, Nokia could very well showcase the device at MWC, but release it only in April this year. Here is what we know so far about the Nokia P1:
Design: The Nokia P1 is rumoured to be based on Sharp design, featuring metal and glass construction. Rumours in the past have also hinted at the device arriving with a ceramic back, similar to Xiaomi Mi Mix. The leaked video shows the smartphone coming with a home button that doubles up as a fingerprint sensor.
Hardware: The Nokia P1 is rumoured to feature a 5.3-inch IGZO display with a refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz. The display is tipped to have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and offer the Snapdragon 835 processor. The smartphone is expected to be IP55 or IP57 certified and made available in 128GB or 256GB storage option.
Considering that this is a Nokia device, camera should remain a top priority here. The leaks indicate that the device will feature a 22.6MP rear shooter with Carl Zeiss lens. The device is also likely to offer a dedicated shutter key. Other specifications include Android 7.0 Nougat with Z-Launcher UI and 3500mAh battery.
Pricing and availability: Past leaks suggest that the Nokia P1 will be priced at $800 for the 128GB version and $950 for the 256GB model. At that price, the Nokia P1 will go up against Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8, Google's Pixel devices and The Apple iPhone. The smartphone is likely to be made available immediately after the launch of the Galaxy S8 and we hope to hear more at MWC 2017.
