Nokia has detailed the upcoming browser update of the Symbian Anna OS, showing off many of the new features in handy comparison shots between two identical displays – the Symbian^3 Nokia N8 and Symbian Anna X7. Version 7.3 of the browser offers better overall performance, and, a host of interface improvements. The Symbian Anna browser (v7.3) is based on a newer version of WebKit than v7.2, and has a new JavaScript engine that is 30% faster than earlier. HTML5 compatibility has also been boosted, with a score of 111 out of 400 in an industry HTML5 test, compared to 29.
[RELATED_ARTICLE]The new streamlined UI of the Symbian Anna browser removes the jarring double-bar overlay that it was famous for, replacing them with always-on-show, semi-transparent, back and option buttons. With this move, Nokia has created space for an always-on-show address bar on top. All this is an attempt to reduce the number of clicks and scrolls required to efficiently navigate the web. Portrait QWERTY, a feature that Symbian Anna brought to the interface, has also been added to the browser. In addition to these new features, Nokia showed a new way to bookmark/copy text and links – with a long-press.
