According to a company executive, the quality of the camera has not yet reached the necessary level, which is why HMD Global have refrained from a market launch.

Earlier, it was reported that HMD Global will launch the Nokia 9 by the end of this year, but the Russian Nokia community handle claims that the launch has been postponed till MWC in 2019. On similar lines, another report has confirmed suggethat the smartphone launch has been delayed due to some camera issues, but there is no mention of its unveiling at MWC.

Talking to winfuture.de, Country Marketing Head, Britta Gerbracht said that due to the complex camera unit of the new model, the manufacturer and its production and development partner Foxconn, is facing some challenges. “With the next top model, we want to once again focus on quality, which is why it is also highly rated internally. So far, the quality of the camera has not yet reached the necessary level, which is why HMD Global have so far refrained from a market launch,” Gerbracht was quoted as saying.

Earlier this year, an image of a smartphone with a penta-camera setup and Nokia branding on the back panel was leaked. On the top-left corner of the image, the battery capacity (4150mAh) of the device was mentioned. It was also reported that the smartphone may come with 5.9-inch, QHD resolution 3D glass OLED display and may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. In the camera department, the Nokia 9 is said to sport a 41MP primary wide-angle camera, a 20MP secondary telephoto lens and a 9.7MP monochrome camera with ZEISS optics.

But when the rumours started to pick up pace, the 'Nokia anew' handle on Twitter claimed that HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas is “categorically against the announcement of Nokia 9 this year and is going to postpone the announcement again to MWC 2019.” The announcement of the flagship was planned in the autumn, but Sarvikas decided that the device “is not quite ready for the announcement” and postponed the announcement at MWC 2018.
