HMD Global has officially launched its flagship Nokia 8 in India at Rs 36,999. The smartphone will go on sale starting October 14 via both online as well as offline retail channels. The pricing was revealed by Amazon India ahead of the launch and the Nokia 8 will compete with the similarly priced OnePlus 5.
The Nokia 8 was first announced last month at an event in London and it brings back the collaboration between Nokia and Carl Zeiss. The smartphone features three 13MP cameras with two on the back and one on the front. The dual 13MP rear cameras feature Zeiss optics and a setup similar to Huawei's P series with one RGB colour and another monochrome sensor. The primary camera features f/2.0 aperture, optical image stabilisation and dual-LED flash.
It features a 13MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and support for 4K video recording. With Nokia 8, HMD Global is introducing the Bothie mode that uses both front and rear cameras simultaneously. Interestingly, the company has also integrated the dual-sight mode with Facebook Live and YouTube Live platforms.
The Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD display and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 mobile chipset. It comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage but the company is expected to introduce a 6GB RAM variant next month. Nokia 8 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will get Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade in the coming months.
The smartphone is IP54 certified and comes with Nokia's OZO audio enhancements. The smartphone will be available in tempered blue, polished blue, silver and polished copper colour options. The Nokia 8 is backed by a 3080mAh battery and should offer decent battery life with its stock Android experience. Lastly, the HMD Global announced that the Nokia 8 will feature a concierge service in 50 Indian cities. This will allow users to organise hassle-free pick ups and drops of their devices in case a repair is needed.
