It has been about three weeks since HMD Global started seeding the Android 8.1 Oreo beta update for the Nokia 8. The company is now rolling out the stable Android 8.1 Oreo update for the smartphone. Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, tweeted the news saying, “We are rolling out Android Oreo 8.1 on Nokia 8! Get the sweetest Android to date.” Apart from the Nokia 8, NokiaPowerUser reports that the company has started rolling out the latest February security patch for the Nokia 2 as well.
Nokia 8 is the first smartphone, apart from the Google Pixel 2, to be updated with the version 8.1 of Oreo. The latest Oreo update features some minor improvements like safer browsing, a battery indicator for Bluetooth devices, better notifications, fingerprint management and Wi-Fi speed labels. Additionally, the update also patches a few bugs that were there in Android 8.0. Being an OTA update, users can expect it to soon hit their devices. They can also check if the update has arrived for their device manually in Software Update under Settings.
The company is also reportedly seeding the February security patch for the Nokia 2. It updates the device by bringing some bug fixes along with the patch for a critical security vulnerability in Media framework. The flaw could enable an attacker to execute arbitrary code remotely, using a specially crafted file.
HMD Global has already announced that all the Nokia smartphones will receive Android updates for a minimum of two years. The company has also been consistent in terms of releasing latest Android updates and monthly security updates for their smartphones.
