Nokia 8 listed ahead of launch: Flashes almost bezel-less display, large screen and more
The listing was spotted on JD.com, the Chinese retailer, and suggests that the smartphone may be priced at around Rs. 32,000! The Nokia 8 made by HMD is expected to be a flagship Android smartphone that will compete with Samsung as well as OnePlus
HMD Global is expected to unveil the Nokia 8 in a few days at MWC 2017. Ahead of its official launch, the smartphone was spotted on Chinese retailer JD.com's website, giving us an idea of its pricing and colours. Unfortunately, there were no further specifications and images of the product listing, and its credibility remains doubtful. The two colours spotted in listings are black and grey, and the smartphone may retail at CNY 3,188, approximately Rs. 31,000. While a direct coversion isn't realistic estimate of the pricing in India, if the Nokia 8 is priced anywhere close to Rs, 35,000 in India, it will surely compete and eat into the market share of top teir brands as well as popular brands like OnePlus who offer flagship smartphones at very competitive price points.
The Nokia 8 is expected to be a flagship smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC. The ultra-slim-bezel display seen in the listed photos of the Nokia 8 is expected to be a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with screen resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. The large rear camera module is expected to house a 24-megapixel sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation, and while isolated leaks have pointed at HMD Global using Carl Zeiss optics reminiscent of Nokia's heyday, there is no confirmation on it as yet. We expect at least 4GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. Other specifications include a 12MP front camera, expandable storage by up to 256GB and Android Nougat.
HMD Global's keynote at the Mobile World Congress 2017 commences on Sunday, February 26 at 9pm IST. While the Nokia 8 is among the most popular expectations at the conference, other devices expected to launch there include yet another premium Android dubbed Nokia P1, two budget smartphones dubbed Nokia 3 and Nokia 5, and in what has been a pleasant surprise, the return of the Nokia 3310 feature phone. HMD may also talk about global availability of its already-launched Nokia 6 smartphone.
With all of this in sight, we cannot wait to see the eventual return of Nokia on a global scale, particularly as talks have been brewing for too long now.
