Nokia 8 bearing vertical dual rear cameras and Carl Zeiss optics surfaces in fresh leak
Images of the Nokia 8 have been outed by leakster Evan Blass in a new report. The flagship smartphone by HMD Global can be seen in a Blue colour variant, sporting dual Carl Zeiss lenses in a vertical setup. The Nokia branding can be seen at the front, back. Here’s everything we know so far about the design, specifications, price and release date of the Nokia 8.
Is this the Nokia 8? If a report by leakster Evan Blass has to be believed, the image above is that of the Nokia 8 flagship smartphone by HMD Global. The smartphone can be seen from the front and the back in the image that has been shared by Blass on Venture Beat. Here, the Nokia 8 flagship smartphone can be seen in a Blue colour variant, with an edge-to-edge display and rounded corners. The leak confirms a previous rumour that the new Nokia flagship will sport Carl Zeiss optics. If the report is authentic, this will be the first true Nokia flagship device and will be the fourth smartphone from HMD, joining the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in the line-up.
At the back of the Nokia 8
The fresh leaked image of the Nokia 8 shows a vertical dual rear camera setup with Carl Zeiss branding on the camera enclosure, which seems to be sitting flush with the body of the smartphone. However, the camera enclosure can be seen surrounded by a metal ring, so it could have a slight bump. One can also see a dual LED flash setup at the back of the Nokia 8. Previous reports indicate that the camera pair on the Nokia 8 will come with a 13MP resolution. Also spotted at the back is a model number TA-1012 and an “Designed by HMD Global” inscription.
On the front of the Nokia 8
The front of the device shows an edge-to-edge display with a slight curve. Prominent top and bottom bezels are also visible on the alleged Nokia 8. The capacitive touch buttons can be spotted below the display, alongside a fingerprint scanner. A report had claimed earlier that the new Nokia 8 will sport an Iris scanner, but the images from that particular leak do not match the ones shared by Blass. Needless to say, the Nokia 8 will have 4G connectivity and a 4G symbol can also be seen on the screen. The Nokia 8 is expected to have a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display, although the new leak does not confirm any specifications of the smartphone. A front-facing camera can be seen on the top left corner of the Nokia 8, but we don't have a megapixel count to share with you at the moment.
A 3.5mm headphone jack is seen on the top of the device, while the volume rocker and power button rest at the right side of the Nokia 8. No antenna lines can be spotted on the front or the back of the smartphone.
Is this the first real leak?
Rumours about the upcoming flagship smartphone from HMD Global have been doing the rounds for a while now. In fact, a promotional teaser video of the Nokia 8 smartphone with dual rear cameras was spotted earlier on Vimeo. The clip was taken down later, but Blass managed to tweet it out independently.
A Nokia flagship smartphone had also received FCC certification back in June, but the model number in the certificate indicated a device with TA-1004 model name, different from the one spotted on this new Nokia 8 leak. It was here that the world was made to believe that the new Nokia flagship will come bearing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform, but the model number of this alleged Nokia 8 is different from the one mentioned in the FCC certification. However, a Geekbench listing did confirm a Nokia TA-1012 model with a SD 835 platform, Android 7.1.1 Nougat and a 3,000 mAh battery. Apart from this, the Nokia 8 is expected to launch with two RAM options – 4GB and 8GB.
When will the Nokia 8 launch?
As per a Scandinavian retailer, the Nokia 8 will launch on July 31. The retailer had listed the phone as model number TA-1004, priced at $675 (Rs 43,422 directly converted).
So, this is all we know about the rumoured Nokia 8 smartphone as of now. We will now have to wait till the end of July to get more clarity on the final product.
