HIGHLIGHTS

The new Nikon Coolpix S6900 has a built-in stand that allows you to put it upright and take group photos etc. Nikon has also added photo effects.

If you thought the ‘selfie’ phenomenon was limited to smartphones, then think again. Nikon has just become the newest manufacturer to join the selfie craze, launching a new Coolpix S6900 camera. It has a 16 MP CMOS sensor along with a 12x optical zoom lens and wide-angle coverage for group shots. Nikon has also added a built-in stand to the camera, which allows you to place it at a point and walk away, activating the shutter through hand gestures.

Further, Nikon has also added a number of photo effects to the camera. There are 33 effects in total, which include collage modes and many others that you can add to the pictures. While the collage modes put together various images into one, another mode takes nine quick shots and uses them to make a photo-booth style image. You can also use the Glamour mode to touch up people’s faces etc.

The new Coolpix S6900 also has NFC pairing and WiFi sharing features, allowing you to quickly share the images that you take. It is obviously not meant for professional photographers, but Nikon seems to be aiming at the selfie crowd and has priced it as £199.99 (approx. Rs. 20,000). It will start selling from 23 September.
