Nexus 6P is ‘extremely difficult to replair’: iFixit teardown
iFixit, the website which tears apart gadgets, claims that the Nexus 6P is a smartphone that is difficult to repair. The website gave the smartphone a 2 out of 10, when it comes to ease of repair.
iFixit, the name behind tearing open every gadget on the planet, finally has its hands on the Huawei Nexus 6P. The verdict is in, and the smartphone seems extremely difficult to repair, if something goes wrong. This is especially bad for a country like India, where most consumers rely on the local smartphone repair shops, in the event of smartphones getting damaged. The biggest reason why the smartphone is difficult to repair is its unibody design. The back cover of the smartphone is not easily removable, and that’s a disadvantage.
To put the difficulty of repairing the Nexus 6P into perspective, iFixit game it a 2 out of 10, which is a really low score. Smartphones like the Nexus 6 and the iPhone 6s got 7 out of 10, making them easier to repair.
iFixit says, “It's very difficult—although not impossible—to open the device without damaging the glass camera cover. Because of the unibody design, this makes every component extremely difficult to replace. The display assembly cannot be replaced without tunneling through the entire phone. This makes one of most common repairs, a damaged screen, difficult to accomplish.”
iFixit recently tore down the other Nexus smartphone that launched in 2015, the Nexus 5X. It claims that the smartphone is easy to repair, and gave it a score of 7 on 10. The website also claims that this is the first smartphone from Huawei that it is tearing down.
The Huawei Nexus 6P has received great reviews worldwide, but does it make sense to invest in a phone that is so difficult to repair?
