New Windows Phone 7.8 features leak; Windows Phone 8 Apollo+ update rumoured
Microsoft has just refused to leave the limelight in the recent past. After a slew of huge launches, we’re hearing word that Windows 7.8 is not only ready, but includes some interesting features that were previously unheard of.
The leak comes thanks to the manual of a Lumia 510 that will ship with Windows Phone 7.8 stock. Though the manual is in Finnish, it illustrates a new live-tile enabled lockscreen along with the ability to resize tiles. These two features sound a lot like what we’ve seen on Windows Phone 8 so far.
The manual also notes that there are about 10 new theme colours to bling out your Windows Phone 7.8 device. It would also seem that 7.8 will not be the last update for WP7-based devices, probably as a move by Microsoft to assure customers that the Windows Phone 7 platform is only far from dead.
While the Windows Phone 7.8 update is something we’ve expected for a long time, what wasn’t expected was an update to Windows Phone 8, at least not yet. Word is that MS is already working on an update to the new phone OS, codenamed Apollo and will include features that had to be left out of the final version of the OS as time ran out. This update will allegedly include support for VPN networks, OTA updates and a notification centre.
While there is no word on the release of Windows Phone 7.8 or the Windows Phone 8 Apollo update, what we do know is that the latter will be getting some limelight at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in 2013.
