New iPhone rumours point to June launch; low-cost version to follow
MacFan magazine is getting fairly specific about the launch date of the next iPhone. It also suggests that the much rumored lower cost iPhone will follow soon after.
It is largely believed that the next iPhone is arriving sometime this summer, but one Japanese magazine is getting rather specific in terms of the launch date. MacFan magazine, in its latest issue, reports that the next iPhone will be launched on June 20, 2013. This is the first time anyone has actually pinpointed a particular date for the phone’s rumoured launch. The iPhone will then hit markets sometime in July, but there is no word on which countries will get the device in the first phase of roll-out.
The magazine goes on to suggest that the low cost iPhone, something that has been much talked about in the press, is very much a reality. It is expected to be unveiled sometime in August, a bit after the next iPhone starts shipping. This phone will specifically target markets like India and China, in an effort to boost sales.
The launch date, if true, means Apple wants to launch the next iPhone as close as possible to what would be the sixth anniversary of the original iPhone debut, back in 2007. Another rumor had claimed that Apple would hold an event on the exact anniversary day, but that seems very unlikely considering June 29 falls on a Saturday.
We are not too sure that Apple will release the iOS 7 along with the iPhone in June, but may just give us a glimpse of what is to come. Apple has been very silent on the progress of the iOS update under the charge of Sir Jonathan Ive.
Apple may be looking to take advantage of the lack of excitement created by the Samsung Galaxy S4, which despite the company’s claims, seems more like a refresh of the Galaxy S III, than a completely new product. The iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4S, along with the rumoured iPhone 5S and cheaper iPhone, might ultimately position Apple across a wider ranger of price points in the smartphone space.
