HIGHLIGHTS

Huawei’s upcoming phablet is expected to feature a 6-inch screen, Kirin 950 SoC, 64GB of internal storage and may be available with 3GB or 4GB of RAM

A new device listing, purportedly of the Huawei Mate 8 has popped up on GFXBench. It has been listed as running an octa-core Kirin 950 SoC and 4GB of RAM. The Mate 8 is expected to be the first Kirin 950 powered Huawei device.

The listed device is named as “Huawei NXT-AL10”. The phablet apparently has a 6-inch 1080p FHD display. It packs in a Kirin 950 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz, along with a Mali-T880 GPU and 4GB of RAM, of which 3.7GB is usable. The device has been shown as carrying 64GB of onboard storage (53GB usable). The listing suggests that the device will have a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 7 (or 8) megapixel front camera. It will apparently ship with Android v6.0 Marshmallow.

The specifications are fairly consistent with what have been rumoured so far, with some minor variations. Although, the display is shown to have a 1920×1080 full HD resolution, the Mate 8 has been rumoured to feature a QHD resolution. The Mate 8 is expected to feature Huawei’s in-house Kirin 950 chipset. The SoC sports a big.LITTLE architecture with four Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.2GHz or 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores at 2.0GHz each. The chipset is expected to be fabricated by TSMC using a 16nm FinFET process. Images of a metallic frame and a SIM tray had also been leaked, allegedly of the Huawei Mate 8. The SIM tray suggests a hybrid secondary SIM slot, which can also double up as the microSD slot.

Although not listed, the Mate 8 may ship with a fingerprint scanner as well as the Force Touch display. Huawei has teased the device recently with suggestions that it will be released on November 26. The Kirin 950 SoC is tipped to be announced on November 5 and the Mate 8 is supposed to be the first device to ship with it. Rumours suggest that Huawei might release two variants of the Mate 8 with 3GB and 4GB of RAM. The 3GB version is expected to be priced at CNY 3,299 (Rs. 34,100 approx.), while the 4GB version is likely to cost CNY 3,899 (Rs. 40,300 approx.).
