Day Two of Google's I/O has been full of neat little announcements, most centring around their latest tech, Google Glass.

Day Two of Google’s I/O 2013 event continues to bring with it some rather exciting announcements. Today, the company announced that several new apps would make their way to Glass under the “Glassware” ecosystem. The company also released an SDK dubbed GDK (Glass Developer Kit).

First up, currently, the only third party apps available for Glass are Path and New York Times, but many more are on their way. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have been announced as upcoming apps, along with Tumblr, CNN, Elle and Evernote. Google sharing its APIs with Facebook on its own device is rather interesting, seeing how the Mountain View company is always trying to push its own social networking site.

New York Times reports that “So far on Glass, photos are shareable only through Google Plus. With the Facebook app, Glass users will be able to share photos taken with Glass on Facebook. Twitter’s Glass app lets people tailor their stream to only receive posts from certain people and transcribe new posts using voice. Tumblr’s app shows a user’s full feed or just select updates.”

What was also revealed was the Glass Developer Kit which will come with an updated Mirror API set that will allow running of apps that can function completely independent of an internet connection and those with direct access to the device’s various hardware features.

This move will open the floodgates for Glass development, and guarantees we will be seeing a large number of new Glass apps in the future. However, we do sincerely hope that Google will exercise an Apple-like level of screening for the apps being developed for Glass.
