Apple introduces new 'try and buy' offer in India that lets users try out any iPhone for two weeks and decide whether they want to keep it.
Apple India has launched a new ‘try and buy’ offer under which you can try out any iPhone for two weeks and decide if you want to hold on to the phone or return it. This trial offer is only available at select Apple retailers such as Aptronix, Imagine, Nyasa, iStore by Reliance Digital, Maple and Unicorn. Now, before you scamper off to the nearest outlet, keep in mind that there are plenty of ‘terms and conditions’ that you will have to weigh.
1. When you pick up the phone the first time, you will have to pay the entire amount for it. So, don’t get happy thinking that you’re getting a new iPhone for two weeks for free.
2. Even if you return the phone, the retail outlet will charge you Rs. 1,000 as a ‘restocking fee’. This is a fixed charge and will have to be paid.
3. Okay, here’s where it gets dangerous. Apple says that it will only accept the phone if its returned with all the accessories, the box and without ‘scratches’. There’s no real definition of how bad the scratches will have to be and this is really dicey since it’s quite easy to deliver minor scratches to the iPhone.
4. You won’t get your money immediately on returning the phone but rather within 3 working days either in the form of a cheque or a money transfer.
Overall, although the ‘try and buy’ offer sounds good on paper, we’d be wary of picking up an iPhone to try it out if you really didn’t intend on purchasing it in the first place. What do you think of this offer?
