Network outage hits Airtel customers in western India

Updated on 27-Dec-2011

Airtel customers in western India are reportedly grappling with a service outage due to a technical snag in the telecom operators system. The Airtel customers in adjoining areas including Pune are also experiencing the outage, and are unable to make voice calls or access Internet.

Confirming the glitch, an Airtel spokesperson says, “A technical outage has affected our network in the western region, resulting in disruption of some services. We are working toward rectifying the outage at the earliest. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers.”

According to reports, a major fire at its data centre in Malad in suburban Mumbai early today led to the disruption of Airtel services. Since morning, a number of users have complained about the network problems they are facing. Many of the users have said that they are unable to send text messages, make voice calls, or access Internet through the Airtel networks. Airte has also confirmed the snag on its twitter account:

Though Airtel did not provide any time frame to solve the problem, it did post a follow up tweet, regretting the inconvenience caused to its customers.
