Sony has announced two new Android devices at MWC, the Xperia P and Xperia U. Both devices will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch in Q2 2012, but get an Android 4.0 ICS upgrade soon after. Prices haven’t been revealed yet however.
Both phones are smaller versions of the Xperia S. The Sony Xperia P, formerly known as the Xperia Nyphon, features a brushed aluminium finish, and runs on a 1GHz dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor, and 1GB of RAM. It has a 4-inch (540×960 pixel) resolution display with White Magic, a 1080p HD-capable 8MP camera, front-facing VGA camera, NFC connectivity, 16GB of built-in storage with no microSD card slot, stereo FM radio, and a 1,300 mAh battery with 470 hours of standby time, 6 hours talk-time, and 80 hours of music play.
The Sony Xperia U, formerly known as the Xperia Kumquat, features a colour-changing band at the bottom. It also features a 3.5-inch (480×854) Reality display, the same NovaThor 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, with 8GB of built-in storage and no microSD card slot.
The Xperia U also features a Sony’s xLOUD surround technology, stereo FM radio, GPS and A-GPS connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and hotspot functionality, microUSB 2.0, and 1,320 mAh battery with 260 hours of standby time, 6 hours and 36 minutes of talk-time, and 45 hours of music play.
