Mozilla announces Firefox OS expansion plans into Asia
Companies like Intex and other have already announced Firefox OS run smartphones, priced below Rs 3,000 to India.
Open source giant Mozilla yesterday announced its expansion plans on its blog yesterday, covering Europe, Latin America and Asia. This means that phones from ZTE, LG etc. that are currently running the Firefox OS, may soon be available in these areas. This includes the LG Fireweb, ZTE Open, ZTE Open C, ZTE Open II, Alcatel One Touch Fire, Alcatel One Touch C, Alcatel One Touch Fire E and the Huawei Y300 II.
As mentioned above, Firefox OS will be coming to Latin America along with Central America, Ecuador and Argentina. In India, Mozilla is partnering with 20 carriers to launch Firefox OS smartphone at very low prices. In other Asia Pacific regions, Telenor has confirmed that it will offer Firefox OS run smartphones.
Telecom service provider Deutsche Telekom will be launching four new Firefox OS driven smartphones in four new markets, including the Czech Republic, Croatia, Montenegro and Macedonia. In addition, another telecom company, Telefonica, will be bringing Firefox OS run devices to Germany. Telefonica was one of the original partners of Mozilla for its smartphones.
O2 on the other hand has already started the pre-sales of the Alcatel One Touch Fire E, while ZTE is reportedly planning to launch the ZTE Open C smartphone in France this month.
