Motorola X Phone to be unveiled at Google I/O with hardware customization?
We're hearing that this year's Google I/O, besides being famous for getting sold out within minutes, is also going to be very exciting thanks to the Motorola X Phone.
Every year, Google unveils something new (and great) at its annual event, Google I/O. This year, we’re hearing rumours that the device to be revealed won’t be a new Nexus phone, but possibly the Motorola X Phone. It’s about time we saw something come from the Motorola acquisition by Google, first revealed in August 2011.
There isn’t a whole lot known about the X Phone (or X-Phone), except that it will be a premium device, at least in feature set. There is a rumour that it will run on the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon S800 processor, which is also said to make its way into the ‘first device by June 2013’. Could this be a coincidence? Maybe, but we’d like to think not. It is also said that there will be a 16MP camera on the back of the X Phone and a 5-inch screen on the front.
The real excitement seems to be centered around the rumoured customization option that Google may offer. Up until now, all cellphones have shipped with a very specific, non-negotiable specification sheet, but that may change with the X Phone. Google will allow customers to customize the amount of RAM, on board storage and even the colour of the device. The custom order would take a week or so to ship, but that shouldn’t be too hard of a wait.
If Google really does take the cellphone the way of the computer, offering real customization, then it could be a real game changer for the mobile phone. Not only could this lead to truly personal devices, l but also allow customers to get just what they want. What’s even more interesting is Google unveiling a ‘non-Google’ device at I/O. Of course, up until now it’s only mere speculation, but one can sure hope!
