Motorola to bring Exclusive Experience Centers, Moto Care Vans in India this year
Flipkart and Motorola today announced that the mobile maker has sold over 3 million devices in India, along with other announcements on the service front.
The company responsible for bringing about the change in the budget smartphones concept, Motorola, will focus a lot on customer service this year. Company General Manager, Amit Boni, said today that Motorola is going to bring up Exclusive Experience Centers this year. The first of these is going to be ready soon, said Boni. Also, the first center will be in Bangalore, with five to ten more to follow in other metros soon after.
The experience centers will allow users to get a feel of Moto devices before buying them off Flipkart. As you would already know, Motorola has an exclusive tie-up with Flipkart for selling its device. The smartphone maker categorically stated that the experience centers are not going to be retail outlets to buy Motorola phones from.
That said, Motorola did confirm that there would be kiosks for customer service in the experience centers. These would act as impromptu service centers for routine tasks like software updates, while they may also cater to bigger needs as well.
This is not the only service effort Motorola is making though. Boni also talked about Moto Care Vans, the first of which have already been spotted in Delhi by some. These will be something of a mobile service center, so that the consumer always has something nearby. Not much detail was provided on this service aspect though, except the fact that the company is looking to bring them up in 2015 itself.
Amidst all this, Motorola and Flipkart both confirmed that over 3 million Motorola smartphones have been sold in the less than a year long partnership that the companies have had. While Boni said that majority of these numbers have been accounted for by the Moto G and Moto E, while the Moto X also accounts for a considerable number with respect to the flagship market.
Interestingly, according to Micheal Adnani, VP, Flipkart, a big number of smartphone sales (not only for Motorola) are coming from Tier II and Tier III cities. This is interesting, since Flipkart and other e-commerce portals have often been questioned for their ability to reach Tier II and Tier III markets.
