Motorola could be gearing up to launch the Moto Maker customisation program for smartphones in India. According to recent tweets by Motorola India, the program could be launched today!
Motorola has been teasing the imminent launch of Moto Maker in a series of recent tweets which hint at the customization tool. Reports also suggest that Motorola may be making the announcement today itself. The company has not revealed which devices will be available for customizations, but according to reports it could be the current-generation Moto X.

The Moto Maker program was introduced in 2013 and allows customers to choose from a range of hardware options like a wooden panel or a leather back for the Moto X and the Moto 360. Users can choose from multiple storage options, or engrave their phones with a personal message as well as customize the splash screen. Motorola launched its Moto Maker service last month in China so it is likely that India, being the second largest market for smartphones, will be the next to get the service.
Motorola made a re-entry in India in 2014 and received a great response in both budget and premium segments. Amit Boni, general manager Motorola Mobility stated, “We are not just a budget brand. Most people don’t know, but the Moto Turbo was never supposed to come to India. It had the maximum number of Google Search hits in India after US and that’s why we brought the Moto Turbo to India.” The company faced competition from Chinese brands like Xiaomi, ZTE Nubia and Meizu. Boni, however, says the competition is nothing new. “The competition has always been there. In terms of the intensity of the new competition, I would not say I am entirely convinced. The numbers have been well for Motorola in both 2014 and 2015,” he said.
Motorola also launched its first Moto flagship service centre in India and introduced the Moto Van for service in Delhi. “We want to show to the customer that our relationship does not end once they buy the device, but continues well after the sale. We have over 160 service centers and plan to introduce the Moto Vans in more cities,” he added. “Top of the line research and development from Motorola is what helps make great devices and customers want these devices because they last,” he said.
