Motorola RAZR scheduled to launch in India next week

Though the first RAZR devices were quite popular in India, we just were not expecting Motorola to release its newest RAZR offering in the country quite so soon, anticipating a delay as with all ‘Droid’ offerings – products that are often not released outside of the U.S.

A statement by Motorola Mobility says the device, touted to be the world’s slimmest smartphone, will be in India this November, with other reports speculating the launch to be sometime next week. The new Motorola RAZR has not been launched anywhere else in the world yet, making the news even more surprising.

Expected pricing should be above the Rs. 30,000 mark. The new Motorola RAZR is a full-touch Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread device, and is of course, remarkably slim – outstripping the current slimmest smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II by quite a margin, at 7.1mm. Speed is also of the essence, with the RAZR running on a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 1GB of RAM, on the TI OMAP 4430 chipset.

Motorola has tried to make the RAZR hardy as well, with KEVLAR fibre and Gorilla Glass helping to prevent scratches, while every electronic component is protected by splash-guard coating. Also to be noted, is the fact that the RAZR runs on a MicroSIM card only.

Other specs of the device include a 4.3-inch (540×960) SuperAMOLED display, a front-facing 1.3MP 720p HD camera, a rear 8MP autofocus camera with LED flash and 1080p HD recording, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and hotspot functionality, Bluetooth 4.0 with LE EDR, HSDPA 14.4Mbps and HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HDMI out, microUSB 2.0, GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS, a document editor, as well as a 1,780 mAh battery that’s rated to deliver up to 9 hours and 20 minutes of talktime, and 304 hours of standby time.
