Motorola launches phones in China, has ‘announcement’ for India soon
HIGHLIGHTS

This is arguably the first significant impact that Lenovo's acquisition of Motorola has had for the company.

Smartphone maker Motorola expanded its business to China yesterday by launching the 2014 edition of the Moto X, Moto X Pro (a revamped version of the Nexus 6) and an LTE capable version of the Moto G to Chinese consumers. The move is arguably the first significant impact that Lenovo has had on Motorola’s business since completing its acquisition from Google last year.

Further, Motorola introduced the Moto X to Chinese consumers, touting it as the ‘Best Android Smartphone in the World.” The Moto X is the first handset that Chinese consumers will be able to buy from Motorola and it will be followed by the other two devices, in the second half of February. Moto Maker will also be coming to China in the following months.

This is interesting, since the company hasn’t brought its Moto Maker service to countries outside the US yet, particularly India, which has been one of the biggest markets for Motorola in the past couple of years. That said, Motorola does have an ‘announcement’ scheduled for India for the 29th of this month (Thursday). With the developments in China, it’s possible that Moto Maker is coming to India as well.

For the uninitiated, Moto Maker is an online service by Motorola, where consumers can customise their Motorola smartphones before ordering them.
