Motorola has launched its smartphone in the Indian market at a starting price of ₹22,999.

Motorola has launched another smartphone in the Edge 50 series. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion ships with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset and has come to India under ₹25,000. In this article, I will compare this smartphone with another sub-25k smartphone that created quite a hype when launched. I am talking about the Nothing Phone (2a) that comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro. So, let’s not wait anymore and bring it on!

Elegance design or Unconventional design?

To be honest, I like both the designs. However, Motorola is the brand that likes to keep it solid and clean and I prefer that more. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion features an elegant eco-leather back panel and a curved display. It comes in two colour options; Hot Pink (the one I like) and Marshmallow Blue. It has a similar dual camera module on the back like other Motorola smartphones. Speaking of its measurements, it weighs 174.9 grams and is 7.9mm thick. Furthermore, the Edge 50 Fusion comes with an IP68 rating.

Nothing is famous for its designs that people call ‘unique’ and ‘aesthetic’. The Nothing Phone (2a) also packs the unconventional design that we have only seen in Phone (1) and Phone (2). But, unlike the Nothing Phone (2), the Phone (2a) is equipped with a plastic back, which is sort of a bummer. It comes in three colours; Black (the one I like), Blue, and White.

The dual cameras are positioned in the middle and resemble two eyes popping out. The Glyph interface lights are back, lighting up for notifications or calls. In terms of measurements, the phone weighs 190 grams and is 8.6mm thick. Additionally, the Nothing Phone (2a) features an IP54 rating, making it splash, water, and dust resistant.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has a better display

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has a 6.7-inch pOLED display with FHD+ resolution. This display supports up to 144Hz refresh rate and has 1600 nits of peak brightness. On the other hand, the Nothing Phone (2a) has a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate support. It is also not as bright as Edge 50 Fusion’s display. It has up to 1300 nits peak brightness.

Both displays are protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Nothing Phone (2a) gets slightly more points in performance

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset in the Edge 50 Fusion is paired with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. This processor has four performance cores clocked at 2.40GHz and four efficiency cores clocked at 1.95GHz.

Whereas, the Nothing Phone (2a) is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Now this processor has two performance cores clocked at 2.8GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. Now this configuration is slightly powerful than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2’s configuration.

Speaking of their UIs, both smartphones come with clean UIs. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion runs on stock Android 14 OS, whereas, the Nothing Phone (2a) features Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5.5 UI. If I had to choose one, I would go with the Nothing OS 2.2.5. Moto’s UI is definitely nice because it’s the stock UI, but Nothing’s OS is something new, different, and unique.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion vs Nothing Phone (2a): Camera

Both smartphones have a dual camera setup on the back. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion comes with a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 700C primary camera with PDAF and OIS support. Along with that, it features a 13-megapixel Ultrawide lens and a 32-megapixel selfie shooter.

The Nothing Phone (2a) has a 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN9 main camera with PDAF and OIS support as well. It has a 50-megapixel Ultrawide lens and a 32-megapixel selfie shooter.
