At the Lenovo Tech World 2023, Motorola showcased its first bendable smartphone. This is not the first time the brand has showcased something like that. Back in 2016, Motorola came up with this bendable display technology and showcased it in Tech World 2016. However, this event focused more on AI, and so did this bendable smartphone. Motorola’s bendable device was showcased with an OLED display that can bend backward to stick up on the wrist. Not just that, this device can also be used with some more bent styles such as happy worm and a tented pose. The brand expects this smartphone to be a hands-free experience.

In the video, we can see the smartphone has been put over a watch-type device and then bent. That device is expected to be some kind of magnet paired with wrist-watch straps to hold the device on the wrist and to prevent it from falling while making movements.
Motorola bendable smartphone specifications
Speaking of the specifications, this bendable device features a 6.9-inch diagonal OLED display with an FHD+ resolution. In the video, it was seen featuring a fabric back in an Orange colour. The OS seems to be working automatically according to the display and its bent style. Moreover, Motorola also revealed that while bent on the wrist, you can use it to its fullest, just like the Moto Razr 40 Ultra’s cover display.
Further, the brand also talked about its AI features. The MotoAI will allow you to make this new concept phone look cool in a simple way. You can take a picture of your outfit, and the phone will use AI to create pictures for your wallpaper that match your style.

However, my take on this concept is that do we really need smartphones that can bend on our wristwatches? I mean aren’t smartwatches with a decent size of dials already a thing? Imagine carrying a 3.6-inch display on your wrist. Next, we don’t know if it would be holding much so that you can run and it won’t slip off. However, foldable smartphones were also seen as “impractical” until they actually rolled out. Let’s see how this bendable technology turns out and if it’s the next trend in the tech sector.
