Moto Z2 Play, the second generation modular smartphone from Motorola will launch in India today. Lenovo-owned Motorola has already confirmed that the handset will be available exclusively via Flipkart and pre-orders will begin today. As part of its pre-order offers, Motorola is offering select MotoMods at discounts.
Other preorders offers include an option to book the device for Rs 2000 and pay the remaining balance at 0 percent interest over the next 10 months using Hello Finance. The company is also offering protective accessories for preorder customers under its Hello Armor pack. The launch is scheduled for 12 noon today and the company is live streaming the event on its YouTube channel.
To recall, Moto Z2 Play was announced alongside four new MotoMods for the US market last week. The handset retains the metal unibody design of its predecessor but it is thinner and lighter this time. In order to make the smartphone slimmer, Motorola has cut down on the battery capacity with the handset getting a smaller 3000mAh battery versus 3510mAh battery found on original Moto Z Play. The company is also bringing back the 3.5mm audio jack which was dropped in last year's model.
In terms of specifications, the Moto Z2 Play features a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor. The handset comes with two different storage options: 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM model with 64GB storage. The smartphone also offers expandable storage support up to 256GB via dedicated SD card slot.
On the camera front, Motorola has borrowed the rear camera setup found on this year's Moto G5 Plus. The Moto Z2 Play sports a 12MP dual-pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, laser and phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. The rear camera is also capable of recording 4K video at 30fps and slow-motion videos at 720p resolution. There is also a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual-LED flash and supports 1080p video recording.
Moto Z2 Play offers connectivity options like WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n with WiFi-Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS, NFC and uses USB Type-C port. The company has also tweaked the front-mounted fingerprint sensor with support for gestures. The smartphone is expected to be available in grey, gold and blue colour options.
