Motorola's latest Moto X Play is set to release in India on September 14. E-commerce platform Flipkart has set a dedicated page for the device along with a countdown timer. Although the company has since removed the timer from the page, reports say, it pointed towards the launch of device at 2 PM IST on September 14.
Update: Motorola just sent out the media invite for the launch. So it is now officially confirmed.
Motorola India has earlier teased the launch of the Moto X Play in India yesterday, via its Twitter account. The company mentioned the phone's camera and battery perfromance in the teasers. The Moto X Play has a 5.5-inch FHD display along with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz. In addition, the phone has 2GB of RAM and 21MP and 5MP cameras on the rear and front respectively. The device is powered by a 3,630mAh battery and runs on Android LollIpop v5.1.1. The device comes in 16GB and 32GB storage options with microSD card support. The device is expected to be priced at Rs. 20,000, pitting it against phones like the OnePlus One (64GB), and Asus Zenfone 2 (64GB). While there have been reports about the Moto X Style coming to India, there is no confirmation on the same yet.
Recently, there have been rumors about Motorola working on a third variant of these phones. The phone will reportedly be called the Moto X Force (codenamed Bounce). According to a leak, posted by @upleaks, the phone will be launched sometime around December this year and price will be around $628 (approx. Rs. 41,831).
Motorola has recently had to deal with stiff competition from brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, Asus and others. The company, which is credited with starting the budget revolution, with its Moto G, has run into pricing hurdles, with Xiaomi and others lowering prices to previously unheard of amounts. While Motorola continues to claim that its devices focus on customer experience more than specs, the company has been losing its sales numbers over time. The second and third generations of the Moto G smartphone, though popular, haven't been as popular as the original. The same can also be said about the Moto E (2nd Gen) smartphone, which lost out completely to the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 and Yu Yuphoria, all of which offered better performance at a lower price.
