Moto X 2016 may come in two variants, launch on June 9?
The latest leaks hint at two variants of the Moto X for this year, too.
The Moto X (2016) has been seeing increasing interest of late, and the latest reports throw more light on the new devices. Contrary to previous rumours, we now expect to see two variants of the Moto X flagship device. While one will be a flagship smartphone, the other will be targeted at the mid-tier of the smartphone markets. Additionally, the devices are expected to come with a modular back plate, and a possible launch is expected to take place on June 9 at Lenovo’s Tech World Conference in San Francisco.
The two Moto devices have reportedly been codenamed Vertex and Vector Thin, and both will apparently be compatible with a number of swappable accessories with its modular back panel. This is expected to function similarly to the LG G5, which comes with a removable bottom panel that slots open and allows you to add accessories under LG’s ‘Friends’ ecosystem. Moto may implement this feature differently, but the idea seems to be the same.
As for the devices, this is how they are shaping up. The higher-end version, Vector Thin, is expected to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, along with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, a 5.5-inch display with 1440×2560-pixel (2K) resolution, 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, 2600mAh battery and an all-metal chassis with an ultra slim profile of 5.2mm. In comparison, the Vertex is expected to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, a 5.5-inch display with 1080×1920-pixel resolution, 16-megapixel camera with laser-assisted and phase detection autofocus, 3500mAh battery and an all-metal body with 7mm slim profile.
While there have been no confirmations of Lenovo launching the Moto X devices on June 9, its announcement for the Tech World Conference includes “new mobile technology designed by Motorola that will dramatically change the way people think about and use their most personal devices – in a snap.” While this does not essentially confirm the launch, chances are quite high that the Moto X devices will be launched alongside the world’s first Project Tango smartphone that Lenovo is slated to unveil.
Motorola is also expect to launch two variants of the Moto G, as Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, on May 17. Alongside being updated with the latest hardware, the Moto G smartphones are finally scheduled to house a fingerprint scanner, which has been missing from Moto phones ever since the company, then Motorola, introduced the feature for the first time with the Moto Atrix.
