Going by Motorola's recent tweet, it seems the company is ready to launch its new Moto G6 series in India this month. As per a recent report by BGR, the Moto G6 Play will be officially launched on May 21. According to sources privy to Motorola India’s plans, it seems the smartphone will be sold exclusively on Flipkart, at least for the moment. This decision stands in marked contrast with that of last year’s when Motorola launched the predecessors to the Moto G6 series, the Moto G5 and the G5S Plus, on both Flipkart and Amazon India.

Motorola had launched the Moto G6 series, consisting of the Moto G6, the Moto G6 Play, and the Moto G6 Plus, in Brazil last month, thereby not only keeping the G series up to date, but also dispelling doubts of the company’s stability after it decided to lay off employees in its Chicago office a couple of months ago.

The Moto G6 Play is the entry-level model in the G6 series. Thanks to the 3D design borrowed from the Moto X4, it reportedly sports a look far different from that of any phone in the Moto G5 series. Furthermore, it features an IPS LCD display that is 5.7 inches in size and 1440×720 pixels in resolution. Motorola has named the display ‘Max Vision’ as it now supports the taller aspect ratio of 18:9.

Under the bonnet, the Moto G6 Play is said to come with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, a choice of 2GB or 3GB for RAM, and a choice of 16GB or 32GB for storage. Optics are taken care of by a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The rear unit features phase detection autofocus and an f/2.0 aperture, while the front unit is capable of recording video in 1080p. Both cameras are accompanied by an LED flash.

The Moto G6 Play reportedly runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, gets a bigger 4,000mAh battery and two colour options at the time of sale: Indigo and Gold.
