Moto confirms Nougat update for newly-launched Moto M
HIGHLIGHTS

The announcement comes only a day after the smartphone was launched in India.

Moto has confirmed that its latest smartphone, the Moto M, will be upgrading to Android Nougat soon. After launching the smartphone in India yesterday, the company tweeted in the evening that the Android Nougat update will indeed be rolled out to all Moto M devices. While a target date has not been mentioned, “soon” should imply that the update will be made available in the coming weeks.

The news comes a day after Moto’s other mid-range smartphones in India, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, finally started receiving the Android Nougat update. Along with a slightly tweaked interface, Android Nougat brings with itself a host of security and stability upgrades, along with new features like easier multitasking, split-screen operations, app source logs, new animations, bundled notifications and more. With Moto, most of these can be seen in action since the company employs a near-stock Android interface across all of its devices.

Among other Moto devices, the modular Moto Z and Moto Z Play smartphones have already received Android Nougat. The newly launched Moto M was introduced with Android Marshmallow, and it remains to be seen how well it adapts to the new operating system. The smartphone is powered by the new MediaTek Helio P15 SoC, along with 3GB/4GB of memory and 32GB/64GB of storage. The main aspect of the Moto M is its all-metal build, that we believe is a clear indication by Moto to switch to rounded metal designs on its phones in the near future.

Google’s Pixel phones became the very first to run on Android Nougat, and have also received the Nougat 7.1.1 update recently. Other smartphones running on Android Nougat in India include the Sony Xperia XZ, the LG V20, the HTC 10, and more.

If you were looking to pick up a smartphone with Android Nougat but did not have the budget for a flagship, the inclusion of Moto M in the latest upgrade list can be an interesting prospect to consider.
