More details about Sony Xperia Honami’s 20MP camera emerge
Previous rumours have suggested the Xperia phone codenamed Honami from Sony was going to be the best the company had to offer, and now some new specifics about the camera module cement that belief.
Yesterday we had reported about two new rumoured Xperia phones from Sony codenamed Togari and Honami. While Togari seemed to be an average high-end phone, it was the Honami that caught our eye, boasting to have the best of all Sony technologies under one body.
While we didn’t know much about the two phones, we knew that Honami was going to be the next flagship. Now, we’ve received a tip that the phone might actually pack a 1/1.6 inch sensor, almost twice the size of a conventional imaging sensor found in a cellphone. The sensor will be of a stacked EXMOR R type and the lens will be made of the Cybershot G glass, which we know to be the best of Sony as far as cellphone imaging goes.
Reports are also claiming that the Honami will carry a flash that is ten times stronger than the conventional cellphone camera flash, but it’s not yet known whether the flash is a Xenon flash or a dual-LED flash.
If the leaks are indeed true and the Honami does include a large sensor, then the rumours of the imaging chip being capable of 20 megapixel images may not be that farfetched. We’d worry about that “10 times more powerful than normal flash” flash though, as while it would be great for illuminating large rooms or far away subjects. It could potentially ruin photos of people who are relatively too close to the camera.
