The Mobile World Congress 2018 is just a week away and we are expecting a plethora of new smartphones to be unveiled by many different companies. Asus will also be showcasing new smartphones at the event under the ZenFone 5 name and has already sent out invites with the “We Love Photo” moniker which features the Qualcomm Snapdragon logo. Teh Asus event is scheduled to be held on Feb 27 at 12AM IST.
Asus ZenFone 5
As per an earlier report, Asus could straight out copy Apple iPhone X’s design for the ZenFone 5. The smartphone was recently leaked in an image, which tipped at an iPhone X like notch on top of its display with a thin-bezel design. The images were claimed to have come from a manufacturer and if the leak is to be believed, the notch will house a sensor, camera and an earpiece.
The Asus ZenFone 5 is speculated to feature a smaller 5.7-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It could be launched running on Android Oreo and come with dual rear cameras, a microUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Its leaked render suggests that it might not feature any physical buttons on the front and sport a rear placed fingerprint scanner. The power button and the volume rocker keys are placed on the right edge and an earlier render revealed that the phone might come with a vertically aligned dual camera setup.
Asus ZenFone 5 Lite
The ZenFone 5 Lite is speculated to be a smaller variant of the ZenFone 5. It was recently leaked by Evan Blass in three colour variants, Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Rouge Red. He had earlier leaked press renders of the device claiming that the device will feature a quad camera setup with dual sensors on both the front and the rear.
Previous leaks of the device suggest that it could sport dual 20MP front-facing cameras for selfies and come with dual 16MP+16MP rear sensors at the back. Processor details for the smartphone are not known yet, however, It’s expected to feature a 6-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
An Asus ZenFone 5 series phone running on Android Oreo (Go Edition)?
Asus could also be working on an entry-level smartphone running on Android Oreo (Go Edition) OS. A device with the model number ASUS_X00QD was recently spotted on Geekbench and as per its specifications, it is speculated to be an Android Oreo (Go Edition) handset as it’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 SoC with 1GB RAM running on Android 8.1 Oreo.
There could also be an Asus ZenFone 5 Max in the works as a device with the model number ASUS_X00QD received accreditation from the Wi-Fi Alliance on January 26. It is expected to be powered by a massive battery and run on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
All of the above mentioned smartphones are currently rumoured and their existence and specs should be taken with a pinch of salt until Asus officially announces them at MWC 2018.
