Xiaomi, which announced its Android Lollipop based MIUI 7 earlier this year is finally rolling it out later this month. The company has announced through MIUI’s official twitter page that they will start rolling out the new UI from October 27th. All Mi devices which have been sold thus far in India, are eligible for the update and will start getting the update from next week. This includes — Mi3, Redmi 1, Redmi 1s, Redmi Note, Redmi 2, Mi 4i, Mi4 and the Mi Pad.
The new ROM has been available for beta testing purposes with select users since August. “We are really excited to announce MIUI 7 global stable build for MIUI fans all around the world. With two months of testing and optimization, MIUI 7 global stable version is to roll out from Oct. 27, 2015. Yours by design! Get ready for upgrade!,” said the MIUI blog post. The new UI will not just bring a visual refresh but performance and functionality tweaks as well.
MIUI 7 will have new features like Muse which is a theme designer within the theme manager, much like the one Cyanogen and HTC have implemented in their respective UIs. The gallery app will support face recognition and will automatically recognise faces and will let users create search filters. Daily lockscreen is another feature which will be making its way to Xiaomi phones. Once installed, this feature will change wallpapers automatically on your lock screen on a daily basis.
Under the new visual treats which the MIUI 7 will provide, Xiaomi claims that it will be 30% faster and consume 25% less battery than the current MIUI 6. The UI has a SMS filter as well which will put all those promotional and pesky SMSs in a separate folder. Xiaomi has also partnered with Opera Max and launched dedicated data servers which will crunch user data. Company says, this way, users will be able to save upto 50% of their respective data charges.
Besides Xaiomi devices, the MIUI 7 will be available as developer builds for other popular devices as well, such as Nexus 5, OnePlus One, Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and more. For user who don’t want to wait, respective ROMs will be available on the MIUI forums from the 27th of October as well.
