HIGHLIGHTS

The phones come with 2MP cameras on the front and back with LED flashes for both, and will be available from next month

Microsoft has announced the Nokia 230 and the 230 dual-SIM feature phones. The devices come with an aluminium back cover and 2MP front facing camera with a flash. Front facing flashes have become quite popular with many smartphones sporting the feature, and makes for a pleasant addition to feature phones too. The phone also comes with a 2MP rear camera with flash, and a 2.8-inch display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. The Nokia 230 and the 230 Dual SIM are priced at $55 (approx. Rs. 3,600), and will be available in Silver and Dark Silver colour variants. It will be available in India, Asia and the Middle East from next month, while other markets will have to wait till 2016.

The Nokia 230 also comes with 16MB of RAM, but that is enough for the Series 30+ interface, and can run applications like Opera Mini, Bing Search, and MSN Weather, with more available from the Opera Store. The device comes with Bluetooth v3.0, and also supports up to 32GB of external storage. The phone has a microUSB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The company claims that the 1200mAh battery is enough for 27 and 22 days of standby time, on the single SIM and dual-SIM variants, respectively.

In August this year, Microsoft had announced another feature phone called the Nokia 222, along with its dual-SIM variant. The phone came with a 1100mAh battery, and the company claimed that it was enough for a month's standby time. The Nokia 222 has a 2.4-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels. The device didn’t come with a front-facing camera, and only a rear 2MP camera. Like the Nokia 230, the 222 comes with Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

While Microsoft is focusing on the Lumia range of Windows-powered smartphones, it is interesting to see that the company still using the Nokia brand for its feature phones. Nokia is still a trusted name, especially when it comes to feature phones, and it looks like Microsoft knows that all too well.
