Microsoft to launch 4 new accessories for Windows phones this year
Continuum allows apps designed for Windows 10 for phones to be used on the big screen and vice versa.
Microsoft is reportedly going to launch a bunch of accessories for Windows Phones this year. Amongst these are accessories that will be designed to aid in Windows 10's continuum feature. For the uninitiated, the feature is the same as Google’s Sync and Apple’s continuity, allowing various devices to work in sync with each other and for information to be transferred in real time. In a report by Microsoft Insider citing ‘realiable sources’, Microsoft is going to launch four devices, codenamed Rate, Munchkin, Murano and Livana, giving continuity to what is already in the market today.
Valora it seems is a device similar to the erstwhile Nokia Treasure Tag. This means it will be a Bluetooth tracking device. Valora though will reportedly have a new feature known as Motion Guard. This will allow the device to send an alert to the user if and when the tag is removed from its position. An update for the Nokia MD-12 Bluetooth speaker is also expected, along with the device Murano that will enable Miracast-based screen sharing between devices.
What’s more interesting though is Munchkin. Although not much is known about this device, it is expected to be the hardware required to really use Windows 10’s continuum feature. According to Microsoft, continuum will allow users to bring Modern Apps designed for phones to the big screen by simply connecting a mouse and keyboard to their phone. Munchkin is expected to be the device that allows this to happen.
While no official or leaked launch date for these accessories are expected, Microsoft had earlier confirmed that flagship Lumia devices will be launched with the launch of Windows 10. It would be a fair assumption to expect these accessories alongside said devices as well.
