Microsoft posts its FY15 Q3 earnings and reveals that it sold only 8.6 million Lumia phones which is less than what it sold last quarter.
Microsoft has published its Q3 earnings for the financial year of 2014-2015 which ended this 31st March. Going by the report, Microsoft sold 8.6 million Lumia devices in the last quarter which generated a revenue of $1.4 billion for the company. These numbers are lower than the previous quarter. In the previous quarter Microsoft posted a revenue of $2.3 billion and sold about 10.5 million Lumia phones.
However, Microsoft performed better than what the analysts expected. The company revenues rose 6 percent instead of the expected 3 percent growth, posting $21.7 billion in revenues. The devices and consumer arm saw an 8 percent revenue increase as well which is broken down and listed below:
Microsoft's search engine Bring captured 20.1% U.S. market share and its search advertising revenue grew by 21%.
Consumer base of Microsoft's Office 365 grew by over 12.4 million subscribers, which is a 35% increase.
Xbox Live usage also grew over 30%.
The Surface range of tablets generated a revenue of $713 million, which is a significant 44% jump thanks to the success of the Surface Pro 3.
Microsoft also saw a decline in its Windows OEM revenue in the last quarter. However, the company is currently gearing up to release its Windows 10 operating system across all its hardware platforms, later this summer.
