Microsoft might unveil two new Lumia smartphones this September

A Windows Central report has stated that Microsoft may well be on their way to unveil two new Lumias – 950 and 950XL, at an independent event in New York City in late September or October. The two Lumia smartphones, dubbed Talkman and Cityman, were previously slated for release at this year’s IFA, but Microsoft seems to have changed its launch strategy to avoid other tech products outshining the Lumias. The separate launch may also give Microsoft a few weeks more to fine tune the phones.

The Lumia 950 has been stated to feature a 5.2-inch display with 2560×1440 pixels resolution, along with Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 32GB inbuilt storage and a 3000mAh battery. The Lumia 950XL will have a larger, 5.7-inch display of same resolution, Snapdragon 810 SoC and a 3300mAh battery. Both the phones will feature USB Type-C port, Qi standard wireless charging and an infrared iris scanner. Both the phones may feature matte white and polycarbonate black finish.

Microsoft is also preparing two other smartphones – Lumia 650 and 850, codenamed Saimaa and Saana, that have a possible launch date some time in 2016. Additionally, another smartphone, the details of which are yet to be found, has been said to be in works. It has been rumoured to have a full metal body, and may run on Windows 10, powered by an Intel processor. Further details are yet to be known, and rumours are suggesting a possible launch in Q2 2016.

The news of the new Lumia smartphones queuing up for launches comes a day after Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 universally. With upgrades to the new OS already rolling out to PC users, Windows 10 for phones is currently in Beta stage, doing its rounds in the Insider circles, and may be unveiled officially in and around September, alongside the new Lumia smartphones.
