Microsoft finally rolls out Windows 10 Mobile update
Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 10 for Mobile update for select smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1
Microsoft is finally started rolling out the Windows 10 update for smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1. However, only select devices are eligible to get the update, but unlike regular OTA updates, users will have to download Microsoft’s ‘Upgrade Advisor’ app from the Windows store to ensure that they get the update. Once they open the app, they will have to select the ‘Enable Windows 10 upgrade’ option before tapping next. The app will then check the device to let the user know if it is ready to be upgraded, or if an update is required before the upgrade. It will even let the user know if the device cannot be upgraded.
Microsoft has noted that the availability of the upgrade may vary for different device manufacturers, device models, country/region, mobile/service operators, hardware limitations and other factors. The company has also stated that list of phones getting the update does not include certain devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile as part of the Insider Program. The company says that the upgrade delivers significant new innovations and releasing it on older devices may impact customer experience.
