Microsoft says, its short list of support is based on user feedback that older phones don't provide optical experience.
Microsoft has confirmed that only 13 Windows Phone handsets will get Windows 10 Creators Update when it begins rolling out on April 25. The Windows 10 Creators Update won't be pushed to some of the popular Windows Phone devices like Lumia 930. The software update list states its short list of support is based on user feedback that older phones don't provide optical experience.
The list of smartphones getting Creators Update include:
- HP Elite x3
- Microsoft Lumia 550
- Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL
- Microsoft Lumia 650
- Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
- Alcatel IDOL 4S
- Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
- SoftBank 503LV
- VAIO Phone Biz
- MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601
- Trinity NuAns NEO
"Devices not on this list will not officially receive the Windows 10 Creators Update nor will they receive any future builds from our Development Branch that we release as part of the Windows Insider Program. However, Windows Insiders who have devices not on this list can still keep these devices on the Windows 10 Creators Update at their own risk knowing that it’s unsupported," Dona Sarkar, Software Engineer, Windows and Devices Group said in a blog post.
Microsoft's last Lumia-branded smartphone was the Lumia 650 launched in February 2016. Microsoft has not introduced a new smartphone since then, and the support from its OEM partners has been weak. According to Gartner, the market share of Windows on mobile declined to 0.3 percent at the end of Q4 2016. Microsoft recently changed the name of Windows 10 Mobile to Windows 10 for ARM-based mobile devices. While Microsoft may be dropping support for some of the existing Windows Mobile devices, the company is also introducing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 15204 for Insiders in the Fast Ring.
