Micromax's subsidiary Yu Televentures has announced that its next smartphone – Yu Yuphoria – will be launched on May 12.
The company Tweeted to confirm the India launch date for the Yu Yuphoria smartphone. The tweet said, "The moment of Yuphoria is coming. Have you blocked your calendar?" Along with the tweet there was an image with the date on it.

Yu has been pitting its Yuphoria smartphone against Xiaomi Redmi 2. Last month, the company had teased specs of the device which hinted at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The smartphone will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and Cyanogenmod 12. The teaser took dig on the Redmi 2 stating the smartphone still runs on the outdated Android 4.4 while its devices are based on the latest Android version. Micromax had run a competition to select the name of its Project Caesar smartphone via its social platform and had finally chosen Yuphoria. The company claimed that it had received over 10,000 entries in the competition. Yu has now launched a competition inviting designers to send designs for the smartphones interface. The contest will end on May 10 and the participants get a chance to win Rs 1 Lakh in Amazon credits.
Yu explains it's 'Yu design it' challenge by stating that, "Our much-anticipated smartphone 'YUPHORIA' will be a new paradigm where everything about a device will be made by its users, for its users and of its users. The tremendous response we received for name-crowdsourcing campaign #YUNameIt from you all was inspirational. It was rewarding of our efforts in making technology a complete reflection of you. The Yu Yuphoria smartphone is the successor to the Yu Yureka smartphone launched last year. The Yu Yureka smartphone has a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2 GB of RAM. It has 16 GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card. The smartphone has a 13 MP primary camera with LED flash and a 5 MP secondary camera. It is backed by a 2,500mAh battery. The smartphone runs on Cyanogen OS 11. The Yureka was launched at Rs 8,999 and saw a huge response with over 10,000 Yureka units sold in just 3 seconds, according to the company.
