Micromax Yu with 64-bit Snapdragon octa-core SoC coming on Dec 18
Micromax has sent out media invites for a December 18 event. The invite clearly mentions the Yu brand.
Micromax is all ready to unveil its first Cyanogen Mod powered smartphone in India. The company has sent out a media invite for December 18, for the launch of the Micromax Yu. The Indian smartphone maker recently struck a deal with Cyanogen Inc, announcing an exclusive partnership with the company in India.
According to sources, the Yu smartphone will be among the first devices in India to be powered by Qualcomm’s new octa-core SoCs. This could mean either the Snapdragon 615 or Snapdragon 410 chipsets, which are both 64-bit octa-core processors. According to Github source code, Cyanogen has been adding support for such processors recently.
Our sources also said that the phone will be 4G enabled, which is likely, considering that both these SoCs support 4G LTE connections.
The Yu smartphone is Micromax’s first Cyanogen Mod-powered device and has come under a lot of scrutiny. This is because Cyanogen's deal with Micromax has created a conflict with its current and long time partner OnePlus, which recently launched the One smartphone in India.
