Micromax has quietly rolled out its first high-end smartphone, Superfone A85, in India. Featuring a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, and running on Android 2.2 Froyo, the Micromax Superfone A85 is available at Flipkart.com for Rs. 18,990.
The Superfone A85 comes with 512MB of RAM and a 8GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD. It has a 5MP primary camera, a 0.3 secondary camera, and a 3.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480×800 pixels. On the connectivity front, the Micromax A85 also supports GPRS, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The device will also come bundled with YouTube, Google Talk, Picassa, Ibibo Teenpatti, and Gmail apps. The Micromax A85 will come with a Li-Ion 1,500 mAh battery, which is supposed to give a talk time of up to 3 hours and a standby time of up to 250 hours. Having looked at the specs, the only really disappointing feature of the new Micromax smartphone looks to be its outdated Android 2.2 OS, as we already have a range of smartphones with an upgraded Android OS. Hopefully, the A85 will soon receive an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. For now, it holds the important distinction of quite possibly being the cheapest phone with a 1GHz dual-core processor available in the Indian market.
