Reports say the company is looking at announcing two new devices in the market, while Micromax itself had teased a 4G VoLTE smartphone recently.

Homegrown smartphone maker, Micromax, is reportedly planning to launch a new 4G VoLTE feature phone. According to Economic Times, the company plans to price the device at around Rs. 2500. The report also says that Micromax may launch a 4G VoLTE smartphone, which will come with integrated payments services. The devices will apparently be called the Bharat One and Bharat Two. The smartphone may be priced at less than $50 (approx. Rs. 3200).

Interestingly, a tweet from Micromax on March 10, had indicated some of these features on the company’s next device. Micromax posted a photo, with a boggle board full of letters. Hidden amongst them are clues like, ‘4G VoLTE’, ‘Google Duo’ and ‘Video Calling’. That, though, makes it safe enough to assume that this isn’t the same phone that ET is reporting about.

Micromax isn’t the only brand looking at 4G VoLTE feature phones, though. Competitor Lava, recently launched the first 4G VoLTE feature phone in India, while Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has been rumoured to be working on Lyf branded feature phones of its own, which will have 4G VoLTE capabilities.

Micromax has been pushed to the back foot lately, following tough competition from Chinese vendors, like Xiaomi. The company, which used to be the second largest smartphone maker in India, has slumped over the past year or so. In fact, the company didn’t launch many new devices last year, and hasn’t been heard from much.

Micromax recently launched a new line of air conditioners, while its March 10 tweet suggests that at least one new smartphone is on the horizon. The company’s sub-brand, Yu, which had gained some popularity post launch, has also been silent over the past year.
